Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Government Document Of The Month - September

On display this month in Government Documents are books and articles as well as online sites recounting the last war this country fought with Great Britain one hundred years ago.  In 1812, President James Madison urged Congress to declare war on Britain and the countries fought for nearly 3 years. In 1814, during the battle for control of Baltimore, the Baltimore harbor, and Fort McHenry, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write “The Star Spangled Banner” which later became our national anthem.  The display is located on the first floor of the library in the Government Document section.

Government Document of the Summer!

Consider exploring The Lewis and Clark Trail this summer if heading out west. The two explorers, Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, were commissioned by President Jefferson to explore the Louisiana Territory and the Pacific Northwest one year after the Louisiana Territory was purchased from France in 1804.

The Lewis and Clark highways travel through 11 states which are designated with official signs selected by the Lewis and Clark Commission.  There are also many memorials dedicated to the two captains commemorating their journey.  One of the most famous memorials is the Gateway Arch to the West in St. Louis Missouri.

There are several government documents offering information on the trail.  Additional information can be found online as well.  The display is located on the first floor of the library in the Government Document section.

Library Hours During Intercession

Congratulations to all Salisbury University May 2012 Graduates!  We wish you well as you pursue all your goals and dreams!

The library will be open during intercession between 8 am and 4pm.  We will not be open on Saturdays or Sundays.  Summer Session I hours begin on June 4th!

·         SU fines only

·         Each can donated waives $2 in fines

·         Maximum of $10 can be waived

·         Cans must not be out of date
