Blackwell Library Celebrates the Green Earth Book Award (GEBA)

During the month of April, Blackwell Library will celebrate the 6th Annual Green Earth Book Award by displaying the 2010 winning book titles in the library lobby. The award is the nation's only environmental stewardship literature program that recognizes authors and illustrators for their impact on children's literature. The GEBA was founded by the Newton Marasco Foundation and is one of the main events of Salisbury University's Children's and Young Adult Literature Festival.

Calling All Animal Lovers!

The student group Leash on Life is once again accepting donations of pet items for three area animal shelters: Wicomico County Humane Society, Good Shepherd Cat Sanctuary, and Somerset County Animal Control. A list of suggestions for donations is available by the donation boxes in Blackwell Library. Items will be collected through December 18th.

Leash on Life is a group who volunteers at the Wicomico County Human Society walking and playing with the dogs and cats. Add to the great work done by these generous volunteers by donating items for homeless pets!

Food for Fines!

Do you have library fines? Is your kitchen overstocked with canned goods? Blackwell Library has the solution to your troubles! For every canned food item donated you will get $2 off your library fines! You will be fine-free and helping those in need. It is a win-win opportunity brought to you by your library!

Faculty Reception at Blackwell on April 17th

Blackwell Library will host a reception to acknowledge and celebrate faculty scholarship on Friday, April 17, 2009, from 3:00-5:00 PM. Faculty will be recognized by their Deans for their many contributions and achievements including publications, creative works, outstanding grants, awards, and collaborative or interdisciplinary initiatives. There will also be cake!

Please note that the library will be closed to the public during the event.

Blackwell Library Supports Public Radio Delmarva!

Today, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, is Blackwell Library Day on Public Radio Delmarva. Librarians and library staff are volunteering to support the station's fundraising efforts by manning the phones. So, if you call in for the fundraising drive today from 9am to 6pm, your call will be answered by a friendly representative from Blackwell Library!

Dean Alice Bahr says that Blackwell Library is happy to support Public Radio Delmarva because we have the common goal of an informed citizenry. In addition to fostering this goal, Blackwell Library is also pleased to offer folks in Wicomico County and neighboring counties borrowing privileges. We also offer a wonderful juvenile collection, federal and state government documents, and access to many resources for research including Reference Librarians!
