Faculty Reception at Blackwell on April 17th

Blackwell Library will host a reception to acknowledge and celebrate faculty scholarship on Friday, April 17, 2009, from 3:00-5:00 PM. Faculty will be recognized by their Deans for their many contributions and achievements including publications, creative works, outstanding grants, awards, and collaborative or interdisciplinary initiatives. There will also be cake!

Please note that the library will be closed to the public during the event.

Blackwell Library Supports Public Radio Delmarva!

Today, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, is Blackwell Library Day on Public Radio Delmarva. Librarians and library staff are volunteering to support the station's fundraising efforts by manning the phones. So, if you call in for the fundraising drive today from 9am to 6pm, your call will be answered by a friendly representative from Blackwell Library!

Dean Alice Bahr says that Blackwell Library is happy to support Public Radio Delmarva because we have the common goal of an informed citizenry. In addition to fostering this goal, Blackwell Library is also pleased to offer folks in Wicomico County and neighboring counties borrowing privileges. We also offer a wonderful juvenile collection, federal and state government documents, and access to many resources for research including Reference Librarians!

Benefit Concert for the Library a Great Success!

A huge "thank you" goes out from Blackwell Library to Mike O'Loughlin and Friends who so generously donated their time and talents at the recent benefit concert featuring Irish and American music. With the proceeds from the event, $1000 will be used to purchase retrospective Political Science titles from the Resources for College Libraries list and $500 will be used to purchase CDs for our Music collection. Thanks again to Mike and Friends and everyone who attended the concert!

New Location for Value Line!

Our business students will be pleased to know that we've moved our Value Line terminal to the Accounting Computing/Reference area. The new Value Line terminal is a kiosk station so you do not need to log in with your SU username and password. However, a librarian will need to log you into the Value Line website. Just ask at the Research Services desk for assistance!

The Value Line station also hosts some FirstSearch databases for which our license limits to one user. Ask at the Research Services desk for more information about these databases.

New Environmental Journal!

Blackwell Library is pleased to announce our new subscription to the journal Environmental History.

Dr. Mike Lewis says, "The Journal Environmental History is the journal of record for the American Society of Environmental History. It is the pre-eminent journal for Environmental Historians world wide – and the third most widely cited journal in History."

We are very excited to provide access to such an important resource. You can find the latest issue on the shelf in our Current Periodicals section! If you have any questions, please contact Susan Brazer, Science Librarian.

Concert to Benefit the Library!

Please join us on Saturday, February 28th at 7:30 pm in Fulton Hall's Black Box Theatre for a concert of Irish and American music hosted by Mike O'Loughlin and friends. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the library circulation desk. Come out and support the library while you listen to some awesome tunes!
