Children's Literature Comprehensive Database Trial

The SU campus currently has a trial subscription to the Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD).

CLCD is an ever growing online database with over 400,000 reviews and related information about children’s literature supplied by over 38 quality review media sources. CLCD is a useful tool for faculty and students involved with using children’s literature in their pre-K and children and young adult courses and programs.

The trial lasts through 5/6/12 and the CLCD can be fully accessed through any SU campus computer via this web site http://www.clcd.com/member/csearch.htm.

Trial Access to Grove Music Online!

A subscription to Grove Music Online now also includes access to the full text of the Oxford Companion to Music and the Oxford Dictionary of Music, and linking from Grove articles to RILM, DRAM and Classical Music Library for subscribers to these sites.”

Government Document of the Month: April

The dictionary’s definition for Hearing is described as “an instance or a session in which official testimony and arguments are presented.”  Blackwell Library receives many Hearings from the Government Printing Office each month which perfectly fits the dictionary’s explanation.  The document of the month for April features a small sampling of these Hearings.  Two are from Committees on Foreign Relations from the House and the Senate:  Peace Corps, the Next 50 Years and Afghanistan and Pakistan:  Transition and the Way Forward.  Another one is from the Committee on Education and the Workforce in the House of Representatives titled Keeping College Within Reach.  Another is from the Committee on Small Business also from the House titled Examining the Barriers for Small Business Contractors at the DOD.   Though at times it seems as if the government doesn’t operate as it should, glancing through these Hearings gives a better idea of the inner workings of Congress and how busy they really are.  The display is located on the first floor of the library in the Government Document section.

Trials for PsycTESTS and PsycTHERAPY Now Through 4/27/12

Blackwell Library is pleased to offer trials to the American Psychological Association (APA) databases PsycTESTS and PsycTHERAPY from now through April 27, 2012. On campus access: http://psycnet.apa.org/?loadState=1

  

PsycTESTS^®is a research database that provides access to psychological tests, measures, scales, surveys, and other assessments as well as descriptive information about the test and its development and administration. 

PsycTHERAPY^® is a database containing more than 300 videos featuring therapy demonstrations showing clinicians working with individuals, couples, and families.

10 & 2 Research Clinics in April!

Once again, Blackwell Library is pleased to announce our month long 10 & 2 Research Clinics.  These hour long workshops are designed to focus on specific research skills or tools and are offered at the time of the semester that students are working on their final papers and projects.  There are workshops offered every Monday through Thursday at 10 am and 2 pm.

Government Document of the Month for March

The Document of the Month for March features an important Federal Law  celebrating 40 years of success.  In 1972, Congress passed the Title IX law  which states:  “No person in the U.S. shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”  For more information on this important law, check out the display on Title IX located on the first floor of the library in the Government Document section.
