Library Purchase of Student Art Work
The library is pleased to announce our acquisition of the following painting:
Artist: Jessica Hessler
Format: Oil on canvas
Title: Filling the Void
Size: 30" x 40"
Year of Creation: 2009
The library selects either one or two works per year from the two senior art shows to receive a prize. The purpose of the Library Prize is to create a permanent display in the library of the best SU student art work. This will showcase excellent work, continue the University's tradition of displaying art not just in galleries but throughout the campus, and give students weary from study an opportunity to integrate the aesthetic with the scholarly.
Eligibility information:
● The art work must have been created by an SU student while enrolled at Salisbury University.
● Eligible works must be in a finished and stable state.
● The format is restricted to 2-dimensional fine art works, such as painting, drawing and photography.
● Because of wall space limitations, the scale, or size, of the work will be considered in deliberations.
● Eligible works should integrate well with the architecture of and environment in the library building. The Dean of Libraries and Instructional Resources reserves the right to make final decisions regarding this matter.
● Not For Sale (NFS) works will be excluded from consideration.
If the criteria are not met there may be years when no prize is awarded.
The funding for this comes largely from the Middendorf Foundation, Inc., which gave the library $20,000 in December, 2007, to establish an endowment for this purpose.
This year's winning art is being displayed temporarily in Dean Alice Bahr's office until it is cataloged and mounted in a public area.
