Consider exploring The Lewis and Clark Trail
this summer if heading out west. The two explorers, Captains Meriwether
Lewis and William Clark, were commissioned by President Jefferson to
explore the Louisiana Territory and
the Pacific Northwest one year after the Louisiana Territory was
purchased from France in 1804.
The Lewis and Clark highways travel through 11
states which are designated with official signs selected by the Lewis
and Clark Commission. There are also many memorials dedicated to the
two captains commemorating their journey. One
of the most famous memorials is the Gateway Arch to the West in St. Louis Missouri.
There are several government documents offering
information on the trail. Additional information can be found online as
well. The display is located on the first floor of the library in the
Government Document section.
