On
display this month in Government Documents are books and articles as well as
online sites recounting the last war this country fought with Great Britain one
hundred years ago. In 1812, President James Madison urged Congress to
declare war on Britain and the countries fought for nearly 3 years. In 1814,
during the battle for control of Baltimore, the Baltimore harbor, and Fort
McHenry, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write “The Star Spangled Banner”
which later became our national anthem. The display is located on the
first floor of the library in the Government Document section.
